This past summer, while working with the Children’s Creativity Museum’s C.I.T.Y. Teen Program, I was reminded that analog is a foreign concept to many teens. It was during a conversation about the filters on Instagram that sparked the idea for an analog photography workshop, aptly referred to as Analog Instagram. During the workshop the teens produced beautiful photos, and were honored with a show at Photobooth Gallery.
The Analog Instagram exhibit was picked up by SOMArts to be exhibited at the SF Youth Arts Summit, and with that the teens have the opportunity to learn about the curatorial process. In preparation for the show I assembled a curatorial team from the teens who participated in the analog photography workshop. We discussed the role of a curator and I shared this recent post from ArtSlant on the topic. It's a wonderful feeling to see my students continue to explore their own artistic practices. SF Youth Arts Summit opens at SOMArts this Saturday, December 11, 12:00-6:00PM. Stop by to see this fantastic exhibit of photos taken from and curated by Bay Area teens.
