Mila, age 5, attended my art class yesterday. Her mother told me that she speaks no English (their family had just moved from Serbia). We made landscape paintings of fall trees. After the class was finished with their paintings we had time to draw with markers. I grabbed a piece of paper and watched as Mila mirrored each and every marking I made on my page.
I’m fascinated by how we were able to communicate through art in this way. In this image you can see Mila’s drawing on the left (yellow) and mine on the right (blue).
