The deadline for my next installation at the Children’s Creativity Museum is rapidly approaching. The theme for this month is “Nature”. The workshop I have designed will have children and their families exploring the origin of pigments, and making prints of plants. For my own artwork, I am combining this topic of nature with my ongoing body of work which documents past memories. Specifically, in this installation, I am making portraits of the people who helped me along my travels from the east coast to the west coast. The portraits will be life-size ink drawings with splotches of color provided by pressed plants.
My drawings are still in progress, but they will be installed on April 14th. In the meantime, I have been researching other artists who are working in portraiture with an emphasis on line work. This painting by Rosaria Onotri is a beautiful example of coloring outside the lines.
